Deleting a status update from your wall will delete it entirely from facebook.
However, it is possible that other programs and websites that read facebook feeds (like TweetDeck) could have saved your status update in their own cache, so a record of your update could still exist. The good news is that only the people who probably already saw your update when you first posted it are likely to still be able to see it later.
It should not be. It will probably indicate that you changed your status, but if you deleted it, it will not say what it changed to, just that you changed it.
No I do it all the time your profile shows you what other people see when they go to your page.
You can edit application settings and what goes on your wall in the settings area near the top right of the page.
